I AM THE CRAZY HOOVERMAN
carlo fashion aka carl oesterhelt is back and still very much
himself. even if he meanwhile became the favourite keyboarder/percussionist
of “the weilheim scene” and travels around the world
with ms john soda, tied + tickled trio and 3 shades of blues besides
still playing drums in f.s.k., his own work remains far removed
from anything that these contexts might suggest (even if he is collaborating
with the notwists micha acher on 2 tracks here).
“I am the crazy hooverman” is the third and final part
of the triology he started with his debut “this is carlo fashion”
(hausmusik lp/cd 052) and continued with the follow up “pieces
for acoustic instruments and synthesizers” (hausmusik lp/cd
055). this time carl fuses the acoustic and orchestral approach
of his last album with the crazy sampling of his debut. carl managed
to put together another weird, surprising and inspirational masterpiece
between cartoon soundtracks, dub, fake jazz and chamber music that
still conjures an unusual lineup of comparisons like chinese opera
music, moondog, tipsy and john cage. if you want to hear music that
is truly unique and otherworldly you have to get this!

und wieder einmal sehr er selbst. auch wenn er mittlerweile der
bevorzugte keyboarder/percussionist der „weilheim-szene“
ist und neben seiner mitgliedschaft bei f.s.k. mit ms john soda,
tied + tickled trio und 3 shades of blues um die welt reist, ist
seine eigene musik immer noch meilenweit von allem entfernt, was
diese kontexte nahelegen würden (obwohl auch notwists micha
acher auf 2 tracks mit carlo fashion kollaboriert).
„I am the crazy hooverman“ ist der dritte und abschliessende
teil der triologie, die er mit seinem debut “this is carlo
fashion” (hausmusik lp/cd 052) begonnen und mit “pieces
for acoustic instruments and synthesizers” (hausmusik lp/cd
055) fortgeführt hat. auf seinem neuen werk verbindet er den
akustisch/orchestralen ansatz des vorgängeralbums mit dem radikalen
selbst-sampling des debuts. carlo fashion ist dabei ein weiteres
weirdes, überraschendes und inspirierendes album zwischen cartoon-soundtracks,
dub, fake jazz und kammermusik gelungen, dass noch immer eine ungewöhnliche
reihe von referenzen wie chinesische opernmusik, moondog, tipsy
und john cage heraufbeschwört. carlo fashion bleibt die best
wahl für alle wahren freunde einzigartiger und unkategorisierbarer
